How We Can Work Together
How It Works
Step One:
During the first few sessions, the couple is given a “relational diagnosis” based on comprehensive data Dr. Pam Staples has gathered. Couples are kindly told the “truth” about the areas in the relationship where they are “off” with their partners and need to make a change.
Step Two:
In the following sessions the coach takes turns “taking sides” – something that traditional couples therapy does not offer – to help both partners feel heard and validated so they can each make their share of individual changes.
Step Three:
Rather than meeting one hour weekly, RLT coaches meet with their couples clients for two hour sessions every other week with the expectation that they are working hard on their skills between sessions. This allows for a “deeper dig” in each session and the two week space in between gives the couple time to practice new skills and follow up on their “relational assignments.”
